WOW! That is a tough law! Suspending carry permits during snow storms, hurricanes, riots etc, when people are more likely to need protection is idiotic. A foul weather bandit certainly has the upper hand in NC.

I knew about this law from several years ago. What surprised me was people from North Carolina blaming it on the (new) governor -- as if it's her fault that whenever there's a major storm and she has to declare a state of emergency to qualify for Federal aide, that triggers the gun ban.

Why don't the sanctimonious twits just demand that their legislators change the law?

My perception is that the natives would rather take their chances ignoring it rather than do the right thing and get it repealed. On a visit to NC a few years ago, when we pulled up to a Red Lobster for lunch I started to unholster in order to leave my carry weapon in the car. "Don't worry about that," said my host, "it's okay."

Fortunately, nothing happened during lunch, but I was more than a little upset to discover after the fact that my friend and host had just led me to commit a felony offense. It's one thing if he wants to take his chances, but I'm not a chance taker ... especially not when the downside is both hard time AND never being allowed to touch a firearm ever again for the remainder of your natural life. I was NOT a happy camper about having been misled (euphemism) in that way.

But, to bring us back on topic ... that seems to be the prevailing attitude. Changing the law might mean effort. It's easier to ignore it and hope nothing bad happens.
