In a new ad, the group cites Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor's recent vote to uphold a handgun ban. Meanwhile, the Senate Judiciary Committee delays its nomination vote a week.
July 13, 2010|By David G. Savage and James Oliphant, Tribune Washington BureauReporting from Washington — Justice Sonia Sotomayor's decision last month to oppose expanded gun rights under the 2nd Amendment is being cited by the National Rifle Assn. as reason for senators to oppose Elena Kagan, President Obama's second nominee to the Supreme Court.

The NRA released an anti-Kagan ad this week that shows Sotomayor seemingly assuring senators during her confirmation hearing last year that she supports individual gun rights. Citing her vote in June to uphold a handgun ban in Chicago, the ad urges members to call their senators and "tell them not to fall for the same trick twice."

You know how to tell a politician is lying? Of course, we all do. Their lips are moving.

Unfortunately, Mr. Obama is a left wing activist and anyone that he would nominate to the bench will be also. The reason we are in trouble is because when the occupant of the white house is a Republican, they nominate people they think will be of a conservative nature and about a third of the time they wind up being left wing acivists. We know a Democrat will nominate a trouble maker to the bench, so no surprise there. I mean, where is International Law or common practice in another country allowed in our constitution? It isn't, but that won't stop these people. They will force us to be what we are not. The people that founded this country were running from the oppression of other lands. These leftists seem intent to bring these anti American ideals to our shores.
