Fast Eddie talking it up again.

Shootings spur Rendell to seek stricter gun control

Gov. Ed Rendell will call on state and federal legislators to take action on gun control in response to last week's fatal shootings of three Pittsburgh police officers, he announced Downtown today.

Rendell, at the Allegheny County Courthouse to announce economic development grants, declined to give details on his gun control request. He plans to announce more at a press conference tomorrow in Harrisburg, he said.

At the very least, he said, he would like state legislators to allow local governments to set their own gun laws, something prohibited in 1996, he said.

"Our police all over the state, not just in Philadelphia anymore, are simply outgunned," Rendell said.

"The amount of firepower that the deranged person in Pittsburgh had was stunning. If the AK-47 hadn't jammed, we might have had a lot more dead than just the three officers."

Richard Poplawski, 22, is accused of fatally shooting city police officers Eric G. Kelly, Stephen J. Mayhle and Paul J. Sciullo when they responded to a domestic disturbance early April 4 at his Stanton Heights home.

Some gun control supporters pledged to renew their efforts after the shootings. However, they said conservative Democrats from Western Pennsylvania and in Congress were unlikely to support the movement.

I will be wearing a Black Cloth Harley Jacket with the various Harley Engine patches on the seleves and a Black Cap with a small Police Badge honoring those who died on 9-11. Hope to see at least a few of our Members there!

Someone defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. These calls for more gun control laws definitely fit that definition.

Ed Rendell is being pressed by Philadelphia, it's suburbs and Pittsburgh politicians for Gun Control. Pittsburgh recently losing 3 Officers to a nut with an AK 47. However, the remainder of the State remains firmly in the Pro-Gun Camp, and should be able to block any legislation.

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Politicians want legislation that would permit them to pass Ordinances Controlling Firearms, which State Law prohibits. Hopefully, it will not come to pass!

The T (the area in between Pitt and Phila) still governs the state of Pa thankfully. There are some "blue dog" democrats who are very pro 2a. Plus Pa's constitution does offer protection in some ways. ;)

The class 3 cities are trying to be able to institute their own laws however they keep getting struck down. :D

Yes, there still is Murtha but somehow he keeps getting elected............ :(

Sounds like most politicians described to a T, regardless of the party that they are affiliated with.

That's because it ain't just the politicians that are insane. Obviously the majority of the electing populous has to share some - if not most - of the blame.

When they want to stop shootings, the answer is to take away everybody's guns.
When they want to stop militant countries from developing missiles, the answer is global nuclear disarmament.
I hope they never decide they want to stop sex. :scared:

Hmmmm! With your last sentence in mind! The fear of gun control has driven sales of guns and ammo to an all time high! If the same fear drives.................... :D

Singapore has one of the best, cleanest, fastest mass transit train networks in the world. They call it the MRT. One of the problems they had initially was that schoolkids were stuffing bubblegum into the door rails which kept the doors from automatically closing when the trains were attempting to leave a station.
So, they came up with a really great idea.
Possession of bubblegum is now illegal in Singapore.

President Obama deserves some credit here, number 1 gun sales person of the century.
And he don't like guns.
At least he stimulated something other than nausea.

Ut oh, spellcheck doesn't recognize Obama as a word, must be a "right wing conspiracy" better call DHS, and have Janet do something. LOL
