I am interviewing for a civilian job at the shipyard. I would like to avoid asking them what base policy is, so I'll ask you folks.
Does anyone know what base policy is for concealed carry on base? If no carry, can it be locked in your vehicle?
Info, or links to info on concealed carry in Maine and New Hampshire would also be gladly accepted ;)
Thanks,
Dave

Maine and New Hampshire both issue CCW permits. I got NH because my sister lives there. The process was painless. I have the paperwork for Maine, but since my wife shows no interest in a second visit to Acadia National Park I see little reason to submit the application.
As to the shipyard, though -- is it a U.S. Navy facility, or a private corporation that happens to have some Navy types running around the place? I think that makes a HUGE difference. If it is a Navy base I'm quite sure CCW (or vehicle carry) on the base will not be allowed.

You are correct AB. No firearms on military bases except the ones issued by the military. I couldn't tell you about being a military person and living on base, if you could keep a firearm in your residence but when I was in the military, the firearm had to be kept in the armsroom.

Looks like it is a Naval Shipyard. It is commanded by a Navy Captain (O6, equivalent to a Colonel in the Army) and the official web site is run by the Department of Defense. I think it should be assumed, in the absence of explicit information to the contrary, that no carry of personal weapons is allowed on the base.

Yep! State laws do not apply to Federal Installations!

I guess I should have been more specific in my request...
I know that the base commander has the last word on base. At my brother's base in Montana, on base housing can have a weapon in their house. I don't know all the specifics on his base yet regarding carry and such.
I was looking for current info on Portsmouth Naval Shipyard's policies. The general info is helpful, though.

Dave

If it is federal property, they can make very restrcitive rules if they choose to. Private property is much the same, there is an amusement park in northern Illinois that won't allow off duty police officers to carry their weapons into the park. I love that place, full of thugs and unarmed cops with their families.
