If you have a Carry License/Permit renewal coming up, apply for it at least a month earlier! Some States have automatic extensions for up to 6 months, however many expire on the expiration date on the license/Permit!

Good point for all that are effected.

I submitted my PA non-resident renewal on April 3 ... it was issued April 8 ... and I received it today. Same experience here in Geauga County, Ohio for my resident renewal.

Thats the reason Pa is such a great state. :D

My Son delivered his renewal to the Philadelphia Gun Unit over 6 weeks ago, nothing yet!
Florida is so backed up that they hired extra staff! There is an unprecedented rush on to obtain permits. You lucked out! However, most issuing agencies are swamped!

I sent my New Hampshire renewal in the same day as PA...we'll see how fast things move in Concord.

I have heard that Phila is always well behind some of the other counties in the state when it comes to getting these done in a timely manner. I would suspect he will see it in the next 2-3 weeks. Keep us posted.

That goodness, that there is a 6 month extension in the statute!

I got mine within an hour, but then again I'm the network admin for the county and take care of the sheriff's office. ;)

I heard that Charlie Bronson in Florida requested extra money to hire temporary workers to handle the backlog.
Nice thing about Alabama is that it is handled at the county, not state, level. And with merely a fraction of the population, the process for renewal was pretty automatic. They sent the renewal notice (it's annual), we paid the money, and an updated card arrived in the mail.

In some respects having the State issue instead of the County might eliminate some ambiguity.
Dade County / Miami Dade, for instance might just drag their feet.
FL Sends out the renewal notice with ample time to get it done, and you need a new picture, and I believe a notarized affidavit.
The backlog here seems to be a sudden swamp of new applicants.
And yes the State hired some temps to control this influx of new apps.
Mine doesn't expire for three more years, and the good news is the license is now good for seven years instead of five.

We moved out of Florida before ours expired, so we never had to go through the renewal process.

It was no big deal Tom, I went and got a passport photo, had the affadavit notarized and received it rather quickly. When I finally went and got my license I received it rather quickly, I mean in less time than I expected.
OH! HAPPY BIRTHDAY +1

Florida sends out a "reminder" and renewal packet over a month before the expiration date of the license. It seems like there's something that you keep with you (along with your old license) until the new one comes in the mail.
I'm on my fourth or fifth one (since '87) and have never had a problem; but I'm aware of the hiring of additional temp. staff to help with the backlog that others have mentioned.

In Indiana if you apply for a renewal before the expiration your application is the extension and can be carried until you get the hard copy. They also have a lifetime permit, well worth the extra $$, mine came in 6-weeks. The permit also is not restricted and open or concealed is permitted.

Logman, I really like the lifetime license provision. I will lobby for that provision in PA. Please inform me of the fee for a lifetime license in Indiana.
Thanks!

My Dad had a State of NY concealed pistol permit that was issued probably in the mid 50s, His lincense was good for life. Of course NY may had changed all of that by requiring a photo and what not.

The fees are funny as the state sets the fee, however the Sheriff's dept.or city police has the right to also charge a fee as they are taking the finger prints. So the life time permit is $60.00 to the state, but the county or city agency can add for it's costs which comes to about $100.00 total. Still a bargain, as the total renewal fees for four years is about $65.00, in my mind and at my age(64). The lifetime permit simply alleviates the state of unnecessary paper work. A funny twist to Indiana is one it is a shall issue state, and if you don't have a permit you are allowed to buy a gun and take it home that day, but you are not allowed to transport it off your property for any reason except to take it to a gunsmith for repair. Seems a little strange until you think it out and realize that in Indiana if you are carrying a gun on you or in your vehicle you have a permit and the state has your finger prints or you're a criminal and going to jail. LOL It actually makes sense considering how easy it is for a law abiding citizen to get the permit.

Logman, Thanks it is appreciated! The 5 year fee here is 19.50, however I believe that most people would pay a $100 for a lifetime license. PA is a gun friendly State, Open Carry is permitted without a license, except in Philly where you need a Carry License to open carry or carry concealed. So printing is not an issue here.

Florida sends out a renewal pack 150 days prior to the license expiration date. They advise to return it ASAP, and to keep your address updated.
The FL license expires on the expiration date and must be renewed in six months or a new license has to be applied for.

I of course when using the term "print" was referring to finger prints as that is what makes the State happy. And actually makes sense as laws can not and will not cause the criminal mind to change, if one is to break the law it can not be stopped by laws, but the guilt is made a whole easier to determine if they have your finger prints, and if they don't and you're caught using a gun, you will be going to jail anyway.

Logman, I understood the finger print part. When I stated printing, I was addressing the fact that we do not have to be concerned with the violation of printing, as it is an open carry State
BTW: Welcome to the Site! :)

People use to ask, "but you have to get finger printed"
"The FBI already has my finger prints"
"What! you've been finger printed before?"
"Yes; me and everybody else that joined the Armed Services"
Another set certainly did not bother me. The bailiff who printed me said:
"Have a nice day"
"Ain't I supposed to pay 5 bucks"
"I said have a nice day"
"Yes sir" I learned in The USMC not to argue with Sargents

Well! After an 8 week wait, my Son's approval letter came in for his License Renewal. He will pick up the license later today! His license expired on the 10th of April!

I`ve been reading on how much you guys pay for your ccl, over all you guys pay hardly nothing compare to us in Texas, We pay $125 FOR THE 10 Hr. class and another 125 for the 5 Yr. permit, plus the photo. Talk about expensive.

I'm not sure what the classes cost. As a Veteran and having received firearms training in the USMC I used my DD-214 for the training. This is in Florida. The initial cost is more than the renewal here in FL. I do not know current cost, but can look it up.
