The Oregon Court of Appeals heard arguments on Dec 4 about whether Sheriffs can block public access to information about concealed handgun permits. This case stems from the Medford Mail Tribune's request in 2007 for a list of permit holders. The Jackson County sheriff denied the request stating that release of that information would compromise the personal security of permit holders. The newspaper filed suite and the lower court sided with the newspaper. The sheriff appealed the decision and is waiting for the decision of the Court of Appeals. Apparently most of the county sheriffs feel the same way as the Jackson County Sheriff about this issue.
