How long does it take for a member to be automatically logged-out, due to inactivity here?

I just got here this morning, and the site had me logged in already!

If you use the "Remember me" checkbox, next to your user name when you logged in, it will never log you out due to inactivity. If you do not have that checked, it will log you out after 15 minutes.

Mmm, I have asked this before, haven't I?

So, even though I logged in last night, switched off the PC and loggen back in this morning, it still remembers me... I don't remember this happening with the other site.

Maybe I didn't log out last night, I don't remember, I usually log out of the other site before turning in for the night.

Rekladan, It applies to both sites, I seldom log out. However the 15 minute period is based on inactivity. So if you don't check remember me, and you are in the midst of creating a post when the time expires, you will not be able to post.

OK got it. I always log out, unless I have to leave this place in a big hurry.

BTW, I like your avatar Rich!

Spyro, since you are using your own computer to access the sites, there is no reason not to check the "Remember me" checkbox. And there is no need to log out. If you were using a public computer (like from an Internet caffee or from the airport) then you have to remember to either not use the checkbox and log out when done, so that no one else can use the history and come in the sites with your identity. But from your own computer, there is no such risk.

John, I am using my computer, but at the moment it is on a reception desk (which is an office desk in a cafeteria)... and I'm not here all the time! Over the winter this wasn't an issue, but I've formed a habit to log out of everything and I developed an aversion to 'remember me' buttons, which I have overcome now...:D

Also, when I first joined the other site I misread the rules, the ones that related to logging out of the vB chat, and by the time i realised I didn't have to do it for the forum itself, the habit was already there..!

For your case, I would suggest something much simpler. Add a password to your computer, so that when you do not use it for a while, it goes to the user-select screen. When you select your account to go in, it will ask you for the password. That's a master password for Windows. All that is inside, is protected so you do not need to log out of every site you are in.

By the way Rich, the spell checking now works.

Now I feel stupid - that's exactly what I was doing years ago, with Windows 98, when I lived with my parents and didn't trust some of my brother's friends!

Thank you Sir! I choose a non-firearms related Avatar, in case anti-firearm or folks looking to form an opinion come in here to debate. I figure that they may be slightly more open minded to my posts, if I don't display a gun or bullet.

Good point, but in that case, may I suggest you choose a more appropriate signature?

Wait, maybe I misjudged the tone of your post - is the emphasis on "slightly"? :D
