In the past, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) was sponsoring research trying to link lawful gun ownership with gun violence and present it as a national health problem. Aproximately 10 yrs ago, Congress, upon seeing how biased these studies were and realizing that the CDC was using the studies to promote gun control, banned the CDC from doing these kind of studies. Now, the National Institute for Health (NIH) is trying to do the same thing. The CDC is redefining gun control research by claiming they are not researching gun control but are researching alchohol use and it's affect on gun violence. Some members of Congress are already questioning use of tax money for some of the research. One example, funding a study at a cost of over $600,000.00 to study carrying guns and drinking alchohol on street corners and admissions to hospitals for gun related injuries.

Must have been a Rhodes Scholar that figured out that the fools hanging out on the street corner of a large urban area, that are drunk and armed is not a good idea, particularly when you factor in that they are probably gang members defending their turf from outside gangs. Not to mention that they usually are up to nefarious activities anyway.

The anti-gun people have been trying for years to present gun control as an "epidemiological" issue for a decade or two. They'll keep at it. In my view, getting shot is neither a "health" issue nor a "disease" issue. It's an injury issue, regardless of whether incurred through accident or violent assault.

Accidents should be studied as accidents.
Assaults should be studied as assaults.
Diseases should be studied as diseases.

If treaties haven't worked in accomplishing their goals, this seems like a logical "next" step...

Treaties? Just ask the native american how well treaties have worked for them over the years...
Thank God for the bill of rights (some of it is enforced) or else we'd be in the same dugout without a paddle.

Well, one must understand that those that want total gun control will stop at nothing to get it anyway possible. In Wisconsin gun control is total and absolute. Quite simple, Wisconsin uses the good, ole criminalization of any gun use. So we can all own guns, but self defense will be a crime.

Believe me I know.

I've had CDC critters all over the facility where I work. We are a medical research wing of one of the nation's premier medical colleges. We also were told we have to work on bacillus anthracis sterne and pasturi (anthrax) IN ADDITION to drug resistant airborne agents like tuberculosis.

The DHS already gave us the green light. We HAD the labs and animal containment facilities up and running. THEN the CDC had to poke around justifying their budget by demanding to have the final say. The NIH gave us the "go" as did Homeland Security and the FBI. Then you wonder where your tax money goes?
