Illinois gun owners got more welcome news today as the Supreme Court of Illinois issued a ruling that eliminated a felony penalty for transporting an unloaded firearm in the enclosed console of a vehicle. The Court's Clerk acknowledged by phone this morning that the Court has affirmed the 3rd District Appellate Court's ruling that the word "case" in Illinois' Unlawful Use of Weapons Statute includes enclosed consoles built into vehicles. More details will be forthcoming as the entire opinion becomes available.

Sanity is breaking out in IL?? Surely this portends well for those of us who live in real states.

And the law in question even permits "other containers". Surely, even if it's not a "case", it's an "other container".

It had to go to the Supreme Court of Illinois until someone figured out that a glovebox is a case? If not a case, then another container... Logic and reason have gone the way of the carrier pigoen in lower courts IMO.
Vote with your fingers or your feet, but at least vote!

Well, you have to remember that it was Illinois. Their laws and courts have to catch up with the rest of the country, although courts throughout the country don't have anything to bragg about when it comes to common sense. There is hope? Gallup just released the results of a recent poll regarding gun ownership, sales, and hand guns. Rather interesting. Here is a link to the poll.

Well, at least IL's high court got it right. I haven't read it but I understand the ruling was along the lines of "Get a dictionary, you dumb MF's!"

Can you imagine how sad it would have been had even IL's supreme court been unable to decipher this one?
