Obama Gets Gun Shy (http://www.newsweek.com/id/193589/page/1)
This seems to be a more realistic opinion at the moment. I realize there is a Representative in New York who said the administration told her "that's not for now, it's for later", but the fight they already ran into with the NRA and a large number of Democratic Congressmen will not change too much.
They don't mention HR 45 at the moment, but it has NO co-sponsors because it is politically toxic. Track of HR 45 (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/show)

As it is often related "Power Corrupts" even the most ardent anti-gun politicians must consider the fact that the Nation is growing more pro gun. In order to retain their power of office, they will be very cautious in backing gun control measures.
However, the anti-gun media will keep hammering for gun control!

Don't expect HR 45 to just disappear though. If they can tag it onto or hide in some legislation they might do it. It is almost a complete gun ban, but i think that the NRA, GOA, and others are ready to derail this junk.
The Liberals realize that the political pendulum is probably going to swing back to the right in 2010.
That Newsweek piece wasn't bad, I actually read it.

HR 45 is definitely in the "action alert" category and we must stay on top of our politicians so that our voices are heard on this matter.

I don't know about you, but I'm just so tired of the constant assault on us from those people. They are a determined lot and they never seem to tire of being a stone in our shoe.
I was speaking to a coworker the other day and he donates many dollars to groups that support his issues and stays on the telephone calling elected officials and voicing his concerns. His opinion is that he will let them know how he feels and will never stop. I do believe I need to follow his lead. It can't hurt.

Dave you are soooooo right. Here is a great place to start, type in the person you are looking for and you then can call and write to them. www.congress.org It will give you a place to voice your concern towards those in DC that you feel "need a talking to". It all starts with us the voters who these politicians work for.

I don't expect HR 45 to go away, but the furor that it is causing is outrageous at the moment, especially considering its lack of movement through capital hill, and lack of sponsorship. People are acting as if it will pass tomorrow, and the gov will start going door to door to take all of our firearms. I am all for calling your congressmen and letting your voice be heard, especially since we have that avenue. But the gun store paranoia and ammo stock-piling does not bode well for the image of gun owners, especially to those who are anti-gun. Now, if we come across as a well grounded group of individuals that want to maintain our rights, and are not scared that anybody with a 'D' next to their name wants to take our guns, it will help the cause. There may be those of us that fit that mold on an individual level, but just attend any one gun-show, and as a group, the attitude is quite the opposite, and those groups just make the gun owning public look like a bunch of fringe loonies.

Cowboy, It's not just HR 45 that is driving the sales of guns and ammo. It's the voting record of the President on Gun Control. The statement of the US Attorney General concerning an assault weapons ban. The Clinton's record on guns, and the many bills being attempted in the various State Houses. Proposals that would make currant ammo illegal, as well as many types of firearms. .
The D next to a name means very little, as there are at least 66 Democrats that sincerely uphold the right to keep and bear arms. However, voting records of many Democrats and their proposed legislation is an issue.
You state, Quote: "the gun store paranoia and ammo stock-piling does not bode well for the image of gun owners, especially to those who are anti-gun" So in your opinion, folks buying guns and ammo distracts from the image of gun owners and hurts the cause, and also making them look like loonies.
In my opinion, the loonies are the ones who initiated the assault on the second amendment by proposing restrictions, registration, licensing, taxes etc in an attempt to circumvent the right to keep and bear arms.
If it were any commodity under simular attack, be it Liquor, Beer, Wine, Cell-Phones, Aspirin etc, your would see the same stockpiling of goods.
BTW: Folks go to Gun Shows and Gun Stores to buy Firearms, Ammo and related supplies. I can only assume that was your purpose of your presence at the locations.
Best of Luck!

I agree that the assault on the 2nd amendment is unhinged, especially considering the amount of problems our country has that, in my view, are far more important to deal with. I also agree that the voting records are a little outrageous of those that are in office, but unfortunately for them, with the offices that they hold, they need support from the rest of congress and judiciary to get things passed. And like you said, we have 66 Dems on our side.
I was simply pointing out the paranoid rhetoric that is driving me up a wall, and yes, I go to gun shows to buy parts and see if there are any cool deals. But when I've had dealers at shows (last week), Bass Pro Shops, Cabellas, and many local shops spout off about HR 1022 and HR 408, two bills which have since expired and been reassigned, and watch people eat it up as fact, is driving me nuts that both sides of that counter are so politically misinformed. But it is nice to hear that you do have your facts together, trust me, we are on the same side.

Carolyn McCarthy, will do everything she can to get HR 1022 passed, this piece of garbage comes up every year. By definition HR 1022 could ban all "over and unde"r and "side by side" shotguns.
Bang, Bang. No bolt actuated, no lever actuated, no slide handle moved,no breach opened after each and every shot fired.
With all due respect to Congresswoman Mc Carthy, I did not shoot any body on the Long Island Railroad.
Persident Obama's track record speeks for it self.
I've been reading this gun control rhetoric for almost 40 years.
Its not paranoia; the global economy is in the tank, and its gonna get worse.

Cowboy, I never thought about you being on another side. ;) Just holding a slightly different prospective on a point. Many gun salespeople know very little about their products, or the law. If I am near a sales counter especially at a gun show, I find myself chiming in to make corrections. I also find it a bit frustrating myself! However, I do get waited on promptly, in the quest to get me out of there! :)

HR 1022 (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1022/text)
There is nothing in this bill banning anything you speak of. The only firearms related offenses mentioned are those where violent crime is intended with a weapon, a violent felon is in possession of a gun, and having a firearm in a federal facility.
The bill you speak of expired in March, because there was no action on it in two years and a new congress was seated. Your misinformation is exactly what I'm talking about.

KimberCowboy1911 is correct in his assessment of HR 1022
The older 2007 HR 1022 can be viewed here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h110-1022
Here are the currant Gun Safety issues from the Web Site of Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy.

Remember folks bills die every day! They can always "come back" when the timing is right. There are bills that took a decade to become popular enough to finally pass.
You must always stay vigilant and informed.
I will add a video shortly that gives you a good example.
