Senator Wicker (R-Miss.) offered an amendment (2366) to HR3288 (FY2010 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development appropriations bill) which was approved 68-30. This amendment would allow AMTRAK passengers to transport firearms and ammunition in checked baggage while traveling by AMTRAK train. The amendment has a provision to reduce funding for AMTRAK by more thatn 1.5 billion if AMTRAK does not change it's policies to allow passengers to transport their firearms and ammunition in checked baggage. Interesting way to bring about change... Just hold the purse strings a little tighter. :)
This could make it, but whats sad is that the riders of its core routes in the North East wont won't benefit much because you cant carry on your person even as residents in most of the States where they stop.

On Tuesday night, Dec 8, negotiators reached an agreement that the final version of a transportation bill will include an amendment that will allow AMTRAK passengers to transport their unloaded firearms in checked baggage. However, the original amendment called for AMTRAK to comply within 3 months of passage. The final version gives AMTRAK 6 months to evaluate any changes required in order to implement and another 6 months to actually implement the amendment, and this is all from the date of passage. In addition, the original bill required that AMTRAK lose federal funding if they did not meet the specified timeline. The final version has no such provision. I would not look for this to become effective any time soon. Politicians on the Department of Homeland Security Committee raised concerns that this amendment would increase the threat of terrorism. I am really tired of hearing this trash from these anti gun people. At times I think that we gun owners may need to just form our own country or the anti gun people should leave this country and go to some other country where they will be happy. :butthead: :butthead: :butthead:

Dial 1911 raises concerns that politicians continued participation in matters of public importance sharply increases the threat of totalitarianism. See how easy it is to say something based on nothing (in their case at least) and offer no proof?
