I want to thank some fo the folks here for inviting me, especially for the purpose of posting links to my columns on Examiner.com.
Please do me a favor. CLICK ON THE LINK, and don't try to "save people some trouble" by re-posting whole articles here. Gun rights examiners only get credit for actual visits to the site, so the more clicks on the links for all of us (you will find links to other GRE's at the bottom of my column) the better.
Cheers
Dave W.

MSNBC practices blatant hypocrisy while playing racial politics (with gun owners as the target!)

Dave you might also want to add MSNBC and Examiner in your title to allow a greater pull from the search engines.

Also everyone please keep in mind that this thread is about media bias, not guns or politics. Thank you in advance.

D90king,
Maybe we are cutting too fine a line here. The intent of MSNBC was to show the horror of a man with a gun showing up at a Town Hall meeting. Evil gun toting right-wing nut cases endangering our African American President. I believe the intent was to indicate the danger of armed citizens and most likely will be used to promote the anti-gun agenda. The problem being the impact would have been far less if MSNBC had shown the man with the gun to have been black. The implication is that those who own guns are white racists akin to the KKK. In fact law abiding gun owners come in all sizes and colors which takes the teeth out of the anti-gun people using race to promote their anti-gun agenda. I think we need to know what kind of things our opposition is going to use against our 2A rights.
Very good article Dave.

Pm me the subject matter and I will point you in the right direction. It can be a little tough to navigate at first. By the way I have read your stuff many times and have always enjoyed many of you perspectives. If you like I can post it in some other high traffic forums...

The sad part of this story was when Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, was quoted as saying the cable network is engaged in a “continuing effort to perpetuate a stereotype of gun owners as white racists.” He just did what he was condemning MSNBC. The story was about Americans showing up to rallies with legal firearms. It was not about race. So what if they cropped to show only the rifle. Black / White / Brown / Green - who cares as long as the person carrying that weapon had the legal right to do so. And remember that our President is 1/2 White and he could have easily and legally checked that little box next to Caucasian instead of African American (or what ever ethic flavor of the month category they decide to come up with - I'm still waiting for the Polish / German - American box so I can be a part of a select classification too).
Will they ever just grow up and stop so much of this childish stuff.

If I'm not mistaken, they mentioned that these people were white and in fact the one they were referring to was an African American.

You know how they'll post a still that you can see over the shoulder of the newsperson? Well, IIRC, in addition to cropping the video so you couldn't tell it was a black guy, when they went back to a studio shot, they selected a picture of a white guy to show, plus THEY introduced the idea that it was racism that was motivating people to show up armed. So the race of the individual who did so was relevant to their argument. They shouldn't be allowed to play the race card, altering viewers perception of the event to do so, and then when they get caught walk away and claim we're the ones doing it.

The media loves to stir this type of thing up. I would believe than since most in the mainstream media are "progressives" their position is that firearms shouldn't be in private hands anyway. They love to stir things up, controversy is their favorite game.
