280 now. Two just joined today. I haven't noticed new members being welcomed like on 1911.org. I thought it was nice the way new members are welcomed there. Are we missing it or am I missing it?

Yes we can! There were also a few guest browsing earlier today. The key is posting current content and it will pull some traffic... The site contains a good group of folks already, we just need to regain the momentum again and add some more.

I'm here. After reading of the forum's impending demise at m1911.org, I decided to sign up in an effort to help save it. I value the existence of a firearm specific politics forum if there's new informative material available as well as threads I feel competent/compelled to respond to. My experience with the site is much like that of some of the posters in the m1911.org thread. I was excited to learn of the new forum, but rarely found anything posted that I felt like I could add anything to, to the point that I never even registered.
The consensus seems to be that what the site needs to survive is content, and I'm willing to do some of the lifting and look for things to post if I have some idea what kind of articles might interest everyone.

Yes we can!...
Hey, stop it with that "Yes, we can!" stuff, would ya? It makes you come across as some kind of incompetent collectivist tyrant for some reason. (Just kidding -- no actual reflection on you, d90)

remember that there are those outside the RKBA fraternity who would like to see this be the "last stand of the 300". I kid you not living in NY City. Let's see that become 3 THOUSAND!!!! I hate to quote the Chairman (Mao not Sinatra) but "Quantity has a quality all its own." ;)

Their counter doesn't work right. Old Fashioned and I were trying to figure it out a few months ago.
If you go to this URL:
http://www.gun-politics.org/memberlist.php?sort=joindate&pp=10&page=99
It will show the member list, 10 to a page, and would show page 99 if we had more than 990 members. With less than that, it just shows the highest page with members. That page is 30 and shows 6 members. Thus there are 29 * 10 + 6 = 296 members showing in the member list.

When a handle is banned for being a professional spammer as many are, or any other reason, the handle is deleted from the member list, however the counter is not reset.

No, there's more to it than that. I was watching it closely just after we found out something was goofy with it, and usually the total members count does correctly adjust when a spammer is deleted. Note, for example, that the most recent member ID numbers are around 450, but the counter only says 376. But something is still messed up because there are only 296 on the members list. Maybe the system previously didn't deleted removed accounts from the count, but then it was fixed, but the error already accumulated by that time wasn't removed or something. Anyhow, not really important.

New record for most online at one time: 22 on Jan 11, 2010 at 23:06
This bodes well for the site John was considering shutting down 6 months ago for lack of interest.
Three cheers!
