I just got this as an email, I do not know if its true, is anyone familiar with this?

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.

The bill was introduced on Feb. 24th and will become public knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law.. This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all..

The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage

I take it that this is a phony warning that has been going around for a while. I am sorry.

Upon further checking this whole thing was not a complete hoax as many of the sites suggest.

Sen. Reed did introduce this bill in Feb 2000 and it proposed to classify handguns the same as machine guns and short barrel rifles/shotguns. To charge a $50 IRS fee to the Manufacturer (which of course would be paid by the gun owner), and require fingerprints and registration. Fortunately, it did not get acted on, and so nine years later we have little to fear unless a liberal House, Senate, and Pres reintroduce it.

I have heard Snopes is not as accurate as it could be.

There is another bill, sponsored by Booby Rush (D-ILL) that has some interesting provisions that would infuriate most of us, but fortunately, it has no co sponsors.

True about snopes... Even though there isn't a co yet doesn't mean we should not be vigilant in watching it wither up and die...
