I think the forum should have categories based on localities; i.e. states, countries, continents, etc. Laws involving Tennessee might be relevant to say someone in another state but would mean little to someone in Ireland. :)

They are! You have National, International and State categories. You also have a general discussion area for things that might not fit in the sub categories you are looking for. Hit your home button on the top left and you will see the break down. ;)

I don't think having individual forums for states would be very productive. In future, there could be some stickies, with links to locations detailing laws in states, counties etc, but it is hard to see how having 50 forum categories for 50 states (not to mention listing individual countries in the International section) would be practical!

Having individual forums for each state and each country would lead to one very fragmented board that would be hard to navigate. As d90King pointed out we have a forum for those laws affecting all of the U.S. (Federal law) and one for regional (state) issues. As well as a forum for Non-U.S. issues.

When you post in the U.S. Regional forum just be certain to include the state in the subject line.

For instance:

State Name: Issue

As long as the state name is in the thread title then everyone will know what state it is regarding.

I would suggest doing the same thing in the Non-U.S. forum so everyone knows the location before they open the thread. It should be pretty simple to keep it straight that way and will certainly be easier than having 50 sub-forums for the United States and 100+ sub-forums for each individual country.

As stated above;

"When you post in the U.S. Regional forum just be certain to include the state in the subject line".

Would it be possible to have a drop-down menu where one can select state, country etc..

It should be a mandatory selection so it would automatically appear in the title..

I am not sure you can have a drop down for only one forum category?!?! However if people simply put the state effected in the title it will certainly suffice for navigating what threads you have interest in......

I'm thinking that people will forget and post without putting their area in the title.

If somehow their location would automatically be put in the title, it will be most helpful for searches...

I will make sure that states are listed in the titles. To start 50 sub categories I think would be tough for John. Maybe as the membership grows and warrants the time and investment it is something that could be done in the future.

Here's what I have thought of..

One cannot post a message unless it has a minimum of characters. There is a block in place.

So, there could be a location box alongside the title/subject box with a block forcing one for an area before a post can be made.

Your thoughts??

I know their id shows what state their in providing it's not bogus, and the drop
downs is good but maybe when they post It wont let them close and post without a local.
