He generally votes with Stevens and the two justices who were appointed by President Bill Clinton — making up the bloc of four more liberal members of the court, a group that has usually been in the minority throughout Souter's tenure.

In the Heller Decision. Justice Stevens' dissent was joined by Justices David Souter, Ruth Ginsburg, and Stephen Breyer. So an appointment of a liberal replacement, should not alter the make up of the Court, on 2nd Amendment issues

He was a turncoat anyway so not much of a change IMHO.
I read about the three nomination frontrunners on Michelle Malkin's blog, and yes, they are even scarier than Ginsburg, let alone Souter. Not that I was looking for another Scalia....

IMHO....I'd prefer another Scalia, to a liberal simular to, or worse than, any of the four current liberals who are anti-gun jurists!

What the United States needs in a replacement Supreme Court Justice is a strict Constitutionalist, no matter which political party affiliation he/she belongs to. Liberal / Conservative / Independent means nothing these days when it comes to the formal interpretation of the Constitution. The Supreme Court must abide by the Constitution when decisions are undertook, not the whim of their political affiliation. That is the wrong approach.
I am hoping for a justice that has a real record of supporting the strict interpretation of the Constitution. Enough of all these biased decisions that have caused more damage to our Country.

Party affiliation has not been mentioned in this thread. This thread is based on the retiring of a Supreme Court Justice. A Justice who along with the three others previously named, has interpreted the constitution, especially as it pertains to the 2nd Amendment, in a liberal manner. While the remaining five, have a conservative view of the constitution. I, nor anyone else in here created the well established labels affixed to the Justices.
In so far as Bias. If you go back to the very first congress of this country, you will find pre-conceived opinions and argument. And in every congress since, there has been bias and argument. However, you denounce bias in here, and accuse us of causing damage to our country. When In fact, Your position is bias.
Dictionary.com Bias.....predisposition, preconception, predilection, partiality, proclivity; bent, leaning. Bias, prejudice mean a strong inclination of the mind or a preconceived opinion about something or someone. A bias may be favorable or unfavorable: bias in favor of or against an idea.
While it may lead to a more perfect union. if everyone woke up this morning and were completely void of partiality and predisposition, However, such a human state has never existed and never will!
I may not agree with your comments. However, I am not going to disparage you, in an attempt to silence you! As the democratic way, is to have opinions and debate them.
