IMHO, The single most important thing that we can do to protect our right to "Keep and Bear Arms" is to expand our ranks. By taking a person to the range, I have never failed to change the anti-firearm position of a person. The main element in the minds of anti-firearm folks, is their fear of firearms. It is important to start slow, I maintain a .22 auto and a .22 revolver to initiate new comers. I move up to .38 Special, 9mm and end with a .45 Auto. As a matter of fact, all but a very few become gun owners!

If every gun owner took at least one newbe to the range this year, our worries concerning new gun laws would be addressed in a most positive manner.

Do your part, teach at least one person to shoot this year! And more, if you can!

Great point Rich! I agree that the greatest way to expand our ranks is by getting rid of the stigma and fear that comes along with "guns". The best way to do it is slowly and in a fun manner..... Take a newbie to the range once a month is a great way to start.

Showing others the enjoyment that comes along with firearms is a great way to expand our ranks.

In Illinois we have what is known as an FOID card. Without one, you are not allowed to buy firearms or ammunition in Illinois. I have done my best and got my niece, nephew, son and daughter to apply for one. If someone is familiar with firearms, they won't swallow the nonsense that is being force fed to them in the media. I did offer the use of my firearms to all these young people, they do have to learn to shoot and I might as well do it so they learn correctly. :)

You definately live in a "red" state. :( Do all you can in a tough neck of the woods for law abiding gun owners. ;)

Good points all. If we all can make a concious effort to be ambassadors for our right we will win people by example. I try to talk to anyone that will listen about the FUN of gun ownership.

I felt pretty good today after I pusuaded a coworker who hunts to join the NRA as well as his wife. A small advance but it helped me realize that talking to hunters that we know who are not politically active can "wake" them up. Some think the anti gun rights advocates will stop before the bolt action is taken away. Hunters have much to lose too!

They won't stop ever. If they get us down to muskets, they'll begin working on removing those from us also. They are anti gun totally. Until they get mugged. Then all of a sudden, they begin to think about how to protect themselves.

I consider your achievement a huge advance. If everyone achieved the same results, we would not have to worry about the future! GOOD WORK! :)
