Everyone in Oregon needs to be supporting House bill 2727 -

Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. A public body as defined in ORS 192.410 may not disclose records or information that can be associated with the identity of a current holder of, or an applicant for, a concealed handgun license unless:
(1) The disclosure is necessary for criminal justice purposes; or
(2) A court enters an order in a pending civil or criminal case directing the public body to disclose the records or information.

It is currently being "watered down" and may face additional modifications before it gets to the floor.

Please write to your representative and asked that they support 2727 as it was originally submitted - straight and to the point.

I've been reading the Florida statues, and this is covered as well as no record keeping. It is no-ones concern who has a CCP other than the State DLE, and the FBI, and in some cases the ATF.
That nitwit newspaper in NYC published the names of the holders of concealed carry permits, which ain't nobodies business except for authorities.

Update as of 05/05/2009 -
By a margin of 54-to-4, the Oregon House of Representatives has passed HB 2727, a bill to protect public disclosure of the names, addresses and other personal information of concealed handgun license (CHL) holders to the public; that is, the bill keeps it a secret who does and does not have a license to carry a concealed weapon and provides county sheriffs with a legal basis to deny requests for that information.

The bill now moves on to the Oregon senate. The concept of protecting CHL holder privacy as a civil right was endorsed by the Oregon State Sheriffs Association, the Gun Owners Caucus of the Democratic Party of Oregon, and the Multnomah County Democratic Party.

A win is a win. :appld: :appld: :appld:

Thats great news! Isn't this the case where the newspaper wanted to publish the info of all of the people who had permits?

That's great news! Isn't this the case where the newspaper wanted to publish the info of all of the people who had permits?

Yes it is. A few months back I received a letter from our sheriff's office informing all concealed carry permit holders that the local media / news organizations were poised to push for publication of our personal information - for the good of the people. The letter stated that by checking the box that my personal information would be blocked from any publication, which I did. But that was not enough and this bill was instituted by the Oregon House to eliminate this threat.

I personally asked one of the news organizations to publish the arrest records of every elected politician and appointed governmental employee - since that data is also considered public information - and they replied that it might cause undo harm to their reputation.

Thank goodness that the legislation in my state is taking the appropriate steps to protect permit holders' personal information from being published (name / address / phone number). I do not want anyone knowing if I am carrying concealed (open carry is legal in Oregon but wise to only do so in the proper environment like backwoods / trails / and the like (it still puts off most folks to see someone other than a LEO open carrying).
